Aldila NV 44 Magnum Graphite Wood Shafts

The Aldila NV Magnum™ is the first truly high performance, ultra lightweight, sub-50 gram shaft design. Typical ultra light shafts give up strength, flex, torsional stiffness, and overall stability in an effort to chase lighter weights. Aldila engineers have combined exclusive carbon fiber materials and resins with an innovative Magnum shaft profile with our exclusive Micro Laminate Technology® to achieve the highest level of performance possible in an ultra lightweight shaft. By taking advantage of the mechanical benefits provided by its unique structural profile, the NV Magnum offers optimum flex and torque characteristics for the better player while still maintaining the incredible feel that made the original NV® the best selling aftermarket shaft in history.

Is this shaft just for drivers?  I love this shaft on my driver and was wondering if I could put this shaft on my fairway woods and hybrids.

Asked by: Bigharv
The Magnum 44 is a.335 tip shaft that can be used for drivers and fairways. It is a butt trim shaft only, so there would be no tip trimming for fairway woods. The parallel tip section length is only 2.5 inches, so the hosel bore can not be longer than 2.5 inches. Since there is no tip trimming for fairways and the fact that fairway wood head weights are slightly heavier than drivers, if you installthem in faiways, it might play slightly more flexible in the fairways than it does in a fairway wood. as for hybrids, most hybrids today have a hosel bore diameter is .370, so it probably would not work. Even if the hybrid you have does have a .335 tip diameter, the head weights on most hybrids are even heavier than fairway woods, so the flex might be even more affected on your hybrids.

will this shaft play softer because of the higher torque. if i play a regular should i buy stiff.

Asked by: golf livin
Higher torque readings can make a shaft feel softer, but the overall flex distribution controls how the shaft will flex. In other words, an R flex with 5.8 degrees of torque will feel softer than an R flex with 4.0 degrees of torque. If your flex is an R, but you do not want the shaft to feel too flexible, look for an R flex with lower torque than the 5.8 on the Magnum R. Going to an S flex might give you the firm feel you want, but if your swing speed is not up to the S flex, the performance might suffer.
