Ralph Maltby wrote the book on golf club fitting, assembly, repair and dynamic playability — literally. Attend a GolfWorks Academy program and you will gain a complete understanding of today’s vital clubmaking, club repair and club fitting skills — we guarantee it or we will gladly provide you with a full refund! |
The Maltby Clubmaking Academy proudly presents our 2007 state-of-the-art clubmaking program. We have been conducting professional golf club repair, fitting and assembly schools since
1982. During that time, we have hosted thousands of students from all over the world. Unlike other companies who teach club repair and actually repair very few clubs, we repair thousands of clubs yearly. Among the people who have placed faith in us to provide them with
a well-rounded knowledge of golf
club repair, fitting and assembly are individuals who are currently working for companies like Callaway, Titleist, Golf Digest, Nike, True Temper, UST, Golf Galaxy, Bass Pro Shops, Dick's Sporting Goods and more.

THE FITTING, ASSEMBLY AND REPAIR SCHOOL
The most comprehensive training program available in clubmaking today. This course has set the standard for complete clubmaking and repair instruction for two decades! During the course of this five-day session, each critical element of clubmaking -- fitting, assembly and repair -- receives extensive individual attention, but only in context of how they combine to provide a comprehensive understanding of complete golf equipment expertise. An added bonus for attendees of this session is a tour of the Maltby Design Golf Club Studio, where you will see one of the most comprehensive and elaborate R&D prototype development centers in the golf industry.
Your tuition includes three instructional books and a computerized fitting evaluation, and a merchandise credit allowing you to purchase the necessary components to assemble your own club(s) (up to three, depending on cost). You will be assigned your own fully equipped work area where you can learn hands-on procedures with the assistance of our excellent staff. These include:
Fitting
The fitting procedures taught in this program are based on Ralph Maltby's book, "The Complete Golf Club Fitting Plan." This book introduced the golf industry to the concept of dynamic fitting and serves as the standard for comprehensive fitting today. You will learn how to properly match each critical equipment parameter to the swing requirements of the golfer. With the introduction of the new Maltby Playability Factor -- the first quantitative guide to clubhead playability -- the fitting instruction you will receive has added significance.
Assembly
Upon mastering the practice of dynamic fitting, you will learn how to custom build golf clubs to fulfill those fitting recommendations. No matter what your skill level -- hobbyist, shop owner, PGA Professional or golf industry technical expert -- this portion of the Fitting, Assembly and Repair School will hone your skills to make you more successful! Every key assembly skill is discussed and demonstrated by our staff, then you take to the workbench to do it yourself. Critical tasks covered include:
- How to use basic and advanced assembly equipment
- How to speed turn ferrules
- How to install a straight grip every time
- How to achieve proper swingweights
- How to assemble using a frequency analyzer
- Expert "tricks of the trade"
Repair
GolfWorks has long been recognized as the foremost authority on golf club restoration and repair. But this isn't your father's repair school (Note: persimmon wood refinishing is not taught). The emphasis is on the most sought after club repair skills that allow you to repair today's modern equipment. Topics covered include:
- Refinishing metal woods
- Reshafting hosel-less irons
- Applying a satin, high polish or tumble finish on an iron and metal wood
- Measuring width/depth of scorelines ·
- Removing and installing grips
- Short-cuts, timesavers and solutions to repair challenges
During the week, you will also take part in a discussion that will dispel any myths or misconceptions you may have about golf equipment. Learn the truth about the performance of titanium woods, inserts in irons, bi-metal technology and composite shafts. Bring any questions or opinions you might have. Our Tech Staff will know the answer, or they will find it!

PROFESSIONAL CLUBFITTING
With the demand for custom fitting growing every year, it has become more vital than ever for club builders to be trained completely in the art of custom fitting. To that end, the Golfworks is proud to offer a new training program for 2003, the Golfworks Professional Club Fitting School.
The Golfworks Professional Clubfitting School takes basic clubfitting to the next level. While reviewing, understanding and mastering the basics of properly fitting a golfer with the proper equipment, students will be given detailed information on the materials used in modern equipment and the effect they have on performance. Students will learn the proper way to measure the specifications of a golf club and learn how to properly adapt the specifications to fit any golfer.
Students will also learn to properly fit the entire set of clubs to the golfers game. The proper procedures for properly fitting woods, irons and wedges will be covered. Also, the proper fitting of putters to the players game using the Maltby Putter Fitting System will be covered.
The golf swing as it relates to the proper fitting of equipment is also covered. Understanding the cause and effect relationship of the golfers swing and the effect on ball flight and performance is a key in professionally fitting a player to the right clubs. This cause and effect relationship is studied and students will spend time evaluating different types of swings and the effect they have on ball flight. Once completed, the students will have a sound understanding of the effect the golfers swing has on ball flight and how to address this key part of the clubfitting process.
The fitting procedures taught in this program are based on Ralph Maltby's book, The Complete Golf Club Fitting Plan. Not only will you learn how to properly match each critical equipment parameter to the swing requirements of the golfer, you will receive in-depth instruction about the Maltby Playability Factor-- the first quantitative guide to clubhead playability. That, combined with the extensive experience of the Golfworks staff, make this a must for any clubmaker serious about fitting their customers with the proper equipment.
