Maltby MMB-17 Forged Iron Heads is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Clubs I have had two sets of Maltby MMB's. I had the original MMB's that were stolen along with my car and got the MMB-17's as the replacement set. I originally played a Honma PP 727 muscle back blade. The play-ability with these clubs is awesome. I can work the ball, well as much as balls allow you to these days. Additionally, they perform well in all conditions and are extremely forgiving with off center shots. Because they perform so well you don't get the same shocking feedback you would with traditional blades, but that is why you bought these right? My only complaint is the top line is double the size of my pp-727's and are also bigger than my old MMB's (still have the 5 iron, wasn't in the bag when stolen). If it came with a smaller top-line they would be a 10, right now I give them an 8.75 for that reason alone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great golf head I bought a 6 iron head as a test to see if the club would be a good fit for my swing and game. I assembled the club with True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 shafts and did a 16 gram butt counter weight to bring the swing weight down. The first hit was amazing. Straight and on line. I didn't feel the ball leave the club face. I went to a fitting a week later and honed my specs for building the rest of the set. I think I sold the golftec fitter on the clubs. I am in the process of ordering the rest of the club heads to fill out my new set. Can't wait to get them built and use them on my round of golf.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great clubs but maybe a slight adjustment Great clubs, have had these fitted with KBS Tour and they are great. If I ever where to advice a change to this clubhead it would be to make the top line the same as the TE`s and the same with the offset. That would make it look even more like a real players club and probably still keep most of it MPF points..? A great iron for most golfers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very live I had to wait for these but I am glad I did. Initially I did not like them, but after getting the lie set correctly I am hitting them straight and consistently getting 5-10 extra yards throughout the set. Mis-hits do not penalize me any more than my previous clubs, and a hit in the center of the face feels effortless. I love the clean lines of this club.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product Heads feel great, nice soft feeling at impact. I'm able to work the ball both ways consistently and they are nice and forgiving. The weight relief in the long irons helps get the ball up in the air nicely. Even on off center hits, I dont feel like I'm losing a tremendous amount of distance. Awesome clubs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Irons Great Iron. Got them with the TT Dynamic Gold shaft in 7-GW paired with 4-6 TE irons. Top lines are little different, but swing weight, lofts and feel matches perfectly. Was looking for a progressive set and built my own. Soft feel, consistent yardages - great clubs - very, very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A True Value Proposition! After getting spoiled by the classic lines and great feel of a major brand forged MB blade I purchased for grins to practice with, I started a search to find something more forgiving and more affordable that shared those classic lines and great feel. The MMB-17 fits that bill to a 'T'! It's a beautiful club, great looking at address, and surprisingly forgiving for a blade design. And that feel on a flush strike! Butter! These irons make me wonder why people pay 3x more for the 'brand names'!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome clubs I normally do not write reviews. I bought these on a whim after having major shoulder surgery. I hit them yesterday for the first time and was amazed. I haven't played in 5 months and pulled out the 3 iron on the first tee and git it 250 right down the middle. My distance is the same and the forgiveness is perfect for this type of iron. I may buy another set of heads for when they discontinue these irons! I am a 5 handicap and I compare these Mizuno.

PW and GW have the same clubhead weight and lie. So to which length should I build them?

Asked by: Eisen0
For our standard lengths we make the PW & GW the same length which is 35.5" with steel shafts and 36" long with graphite shafts. Here is the link to our standard length chart.

I see from a previous question there is a limited run in the pvd coated planned for mmb. I'm very excited to see this! Do you have a estimated arrival date, and estimated price of the set???

Asked by: Hambone67
I am being told it will be around the end of March 2017 before we will have them in stock. I do not have a price yet and they will be sold in sets only. This will be the same finish as the DBM irons which is different from a pvd coating.

What makes these blades as forgiving as everyone keeps saying? How is the mpf # so high?  Thanks

Asked by: Scott
To create a high or higher MPF rating you need a vertical center of gravity measurement that is lower then the center of the golf ball which is .840". The MMP-17 vertical CG is .741". You want a higher MOI measurement which is 11.4246 ounce inches squared. 11.4246 is good but not what would be considered high MOI. You want a higher C Dimension measurement, which is the measurement from the center line of the hosel to the center of gravity on the face. The C dimension measurement on the MMB-17 is 1.391". For blade designs 1.391" is high. The lower vertical CG makes it easier to get the ball in the air, in the case of the MMB-17, not to low to keep the ball flight from becoming to high. The higher C dimension and MOI make this iron more stable on off center shots. A couple of things we did with this iron to give it a higher MPF rating was to make the hosel length a little shorter (2.187") compared to most blades these days that have hosel lengths of 2.5". This helps use to both lower CG and move it horizontally to the center of the clubface. We also have a relief cut in the heel to move weight from that area to the center of the clubface. You can see all of the MPF ratings for the MMB-17 irons at this link: and the ratings for all the manufactures irons we have tested through this link:

Any chance you will make these in a black PVD finish? love the heads, own a set, but want to make a set of all blacked out irons.

Asked by: Kromulous
I have been told we are planning a limited edition run of MMB-17 irons with the black DBM finish that we have on the DBM irons. They will be sold in sets only.

Can these be prepped, as far as lie angle, for a single length build? Looking at all being 63 degrees.

Asked by: MMProto1
Generally we keep adjustments to 2 degrees. If you are starting with a 3 and 4 iron that would be more then 2 degrees but we should be able to do that with these irons. Keep in mind irons designed for Single Length have head weights that are all the same. You are likely going to have some very heavy short irons.

Are these game improvement heads and what can they be compared too?

Asked by: JAM
The MMB-17 is a very forgiving blade design. Maybe the most forgiving blade designed iron you could buy. We do not pattern our designs after anyone other manufactures designs. We do our own designs. These are not our most forgiving irons. Our KE4 S (MA0254), KE4 Tour + (MA0261) and STi Irons (MA0262) are our most forgiving iron designs.

Do you all offer 6-PW, GW iron packs. I am interested in the MMB-17 but really dont need the 4, 5 irons

Asked by: rebootkid
No the Club Paks for the MMB-17 irons are only set up for 3 through PW or 4 through GW and we do not make substitutions for the Club Paks.
