True Temper TT Lite XL Steel Iron Shafts

The True Temper TT Lite XL steel iron shaft is a great choice for any bore-through iron head.

  • The mid-flex, longer length design can be built substantially longer than "standard length" without requiring a butt extension

Trimming Instructions

True Temper TT Lite XL Steel Iron Shafts is rated 4.6667 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for Ping re-shaft I have reshafted 2 sets of Ping irons with the TT lite xl tapered tip shafts. Playability is excellent and the price is outstanding. If price were no issue, I'd have tried the new XP series iron shafts, but these work well enough. Ball trajectory is mid flight and distance is repeatable and reliable. There is no excess spin in the wedges and there is no trouble getting the proper long iron trajectory. There is no extra yardage built into these shafts, but in my most recent build, I soft stepped the Ping ISIs by one shaft. Trajectory is a bit better and the ball comes off the club softer and with excellent control. The ISIs with the original JZ stiff cushion shaft were just too unpleasant and too much work. They now play great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tried and Trusted shaft I guess a shaft which has been around 30(?) years must have something going for it. I used these 20 yrs ago with some success. Recently I experimented with PXi 5.5 in my irons but couldn't get any consistency with them. I pulled these and replaced them with TT Lite Reg and I just love them. Ball launches medium traj but doesn't balloon and I hit them just as far as the Pxi which cost 4 times as much. Sounds trite but forget brands and try to find the shaft that suits you. (For reference, I am 62 and swing speed is around 83mph with a 6-iron. I have a mid release. My index floats between 1.0 and 2.0 and I have had to concede that I can no longer use stiff flex. TT Lite Reg is about med-stiff anyway.

Will a standard size grip fit on the True Temper TTLite tapered shaft that has a .620 Butt diameter?

Asked by: Pilot11
Yes a standard grip will fit over these shafts. If you use a .600" core size standard grip and install it on the .620" butt diameter shaft you will have a finished grip size of + 1/64" oversize or .915" compared to a standard grip which measures .900".

I'm replacing steel shaft on my ping i3+ 7 iron. ?The old shaft is 36" long steel CS lite stiff. ?Would the true temper tt lite xl shaft be very similar? ?According to the list I would get the 36" shaft that is listed for 9 through wedges.?

Asked by: Dan1
The CS Lite Ping shaft is a lighter weight shaft then the TT Lite XL. The CS Lite S flex shaft was listed at 107 grams. I would suggest the Dynamic Gold SL S300 flex as a better replacement then the TT Lite XL. Your old shaft at 36" would have been a longer raw length then 36". They would have installed a shaft and butt cut it to the finished length at 36". With the Dynamic Gold SL you wuold need the 38" raw length shaft for the 7 iron and if you do use the TT LIte XL S flex you would need the 37" raw length shaft. You would install these shafts and then butt cut to the finished length. Using the 36" raw length shaft would make the shaft play stiffer then an S flex.

Is this only for bore through irons, or would it fit an iron like a Ping or Nike?

Asked by: Gmc357
Both of those answers are flawed. ?Answer one says "this shaft is for club heads that use .370 parallel tip shafts" fact they are .355 taper tip shafts for irons with taper tip hosels. ?Answer two says this shaft can be installed into any type of iron head. ?They are specifically made for irons with taper tip ?hosels.....Some irons use .370 with parallel tip others require .355 taper shafts.

need tt lite in regular flex

Asked by: Rope
For the 2XLI TT Lite XL .355" taper tip you will need to specify the club number you are reshafting to get the correct length shaft in either R or S flex. You will see that information at this link. With .370" parallel tip TT Lite XL's they come in a combination flex shaft that would be trimmed following the trimming instructions to create an R or S flex for the club number you are installing the shaft into. The brand and model of club that you have will determine which shaft you need to order.

Can I tip trim the shafts to reflect a firm flex that is between a stiff and a regular a regular flex?

Asked by: Scoop
The 2XLI is a .355" taper tip shaft that is designed to fit into a .355" tapered hosel bore. A .355" taper tip measures .355" at the tip end of the shaft and tapers out to approximately .370" where the shaft exits the top of the hosel. If you tip trim a taper tip this shaft it will no longer fit into the .355" taper hosel bore. TT Lite XL iron shafts have always played and tested as being stiffer then normal so an R flex already plays closer to an S flex just using normal assembly instructions.

where is the trim shaft code

Asked by: Jray
The 2XLI are taper tip shafts and are butt trim only. The trimming instructions are located under "Expert How To's" in the right hand nav column on the GolfWorks home page. The 2XLI has a trim code of IR1, which indicates, butt trim only.
