Lead Counterweights for Putters

With the new USGA rules on anchoring putters soon to be in effect, these weights allow you to extend a standard putter several inches with a shaft extension and a long or mid length putter grip to duplicate the total weight and performance of a long or belly putter. Available in 40, 60 and 80 gram weight options

I ordered the 40 gram weight - I wanted to insert it into the shaft of my putter, not lengthen the putter itself. ?Is this possible?

Asked by: patrick16
There is a shoulder at the top of this weight that keeps the weight from going down inside the shaft and holds the weight in place. The shoulder adds approximately 1/8" in length to your putter over what it measures without the weight installed. You could sand down the outside diameter of the shoulder and the weight will go down inside the shaft but then you have nothing to hold the weight in place. You would have to epoxy a cork inside the butt end of the shaft to keep the weight in the position you want. It is also best to epoxy the weight in place as well to keep it from rattling.

I have a 46 " belly putter. I am going to cut off of the original grip and shaft about 4 or 5 inches to stop anchoring. How many grams of weight do I add??

Asked by: Tw9111
You will have to experiment with what gives you the feel you want with the shorter length. Belly putter head weights are usually very heavy, 400 grams plus. The heavy grips used in Belly putters actually acted as a counterbalance to the heavy head. At the shorter length, you may need to use a counter balance (heavy) traditional style grip to offset the heavy head. There are several avaialble. Super Stroke now makes a counter balancing system for just your situation. It is called the counter core back-weight system. You can see it on our on line catalog on page 51.

Can you use these to backweight irons as well?

Asked by: Cloran
Yes, you can use the Putter Counter Balance weights to backweight steel shafted irons however, these will probably be too heavy. You can find lighter weights intended for steel shafted irons here:

Can I use these weights to face balance my putter

Asked by: Stix
No. Face Balancing come from the position of the shaft as it enters the clubhead. If you draw a line down the center line of the shaft it would intersect the center of the clubhead from heel to toe. That is how face balancing is accomplished.
