Information and instruction,on what types of metals can and cant be bent,[club heads irons]

Asked by: tedthehammer
On our web site home page in the right hand column there is a subject tab for "golf irons not recommended for loft and lie adjustment". This is list of irons we have identified as not bendable. We try to keep it as up to date as possible and add new models as soon as we have an opportunity to test. As far as materials, there is such a variety that are used, combined with varying degrees of heat treament, it is difficult to identify exactly what combinations can and can't be bent unless you actually test them. Generally, 1020, 1025, 1035 carbon steels can be bent, 431 stainless and 17-4 stainless can also be bent, with the 431 being a little softer. These are the most common materials currently used in irons. Again, heat treament can change the properties and make them easier, or more difficult to bend.
