The GolfWorks Full Size Build-Up Tape

The guess work has finally been removed from correctly and professionally creating oversize golf grip sizes. The GolfWorks Full Size Build-Up Tape is manufactured at .0065" thickness resulting in a .013" increase in grip size with each layer of build-up tape used, cutting your usage to almost half that of typical "value" build-up tape. Another noticeable feature of the new Full Size Build-Up Tape is that the sheer thickness of tape helps eliminate unwanted wrinkles when applying the tape to the golf shaft.

How much weight would four wraps of build-up add to a standard size grip? Would that be lighter than just going with a +1/16 midsize grip that's 12g heavier than standard? Would it be significant enough to reduce swingweight by a point or so less?

A lot of this would depend on which Mid Size grip you might use and how much does it weight. With the Professional Build-Up tape 4 wraps would probably lighten you about 2 swingweights or about 8 grams of grip weight. 4 wraps of this tape on a .600" butt diameter shaft with a .600" core size grip would not quite get you to +1/16" oversize which measure .960". You would get to .952" with the 4 build up wraps.

I read the other question so I understand it depends on some factors as to what the end result would be, but how much of a change does one layer make? Lets say I have a standard grip. Will one layer make it a mid by that grip standard (Counting grip tape)

A standard size men's grip will measure .900" at 2" down from the top edge of the grip cap. If you installed 1 layer of this build-up tape it would increase the size to .915" which is reference as + 1/64" oversize. A mid size grip (+ 1/16") measures .960" and would take 4 layers of this tape to achieve that size. The double sided grip tape is part of the finished size of the grip an is never counted as a build up layer.

How many wraps make a standard grip a mid sized? Not counting the double sided grip tape.

Asked by: Jay S
Creating different sized grips all depends on the core size of the grip and the butt diameter of the shaft you are installing it on. "Midsize" is not the same measured size from grip manufacture to grip manufacture. Midsize grips can range from +1/32 to +1/16 oversize with +3/64 probably more of the average. If you know your grip core size and shaft butt diameter you can use this link to determine how many layers of tape you will need to create a specific grip size. http://www.golfworks.com/images/art/GripSizing2.pdf
