MALTBY XTREME GLIDER X IRON CLUBHEADS

The new Maltby Glider Irons are another example of expanding the norm in search for more playable clubs. This iron has been under development for well over a year and the results yielded one of the most playable irons ever developed. The 5 iron came in at 1197 points, at the top of the Ultra playability category. The actual vertical CG of .450" is the lowest we have ever measured. This feature makes the Glider iron one of the easiest irons ever to get the ball airborne. In testing the iron, the ease to which the longer irons got the ball to the optimum trajectory was amazing.

The face thickness is an ultra thin .100" (2.5 mm), to allow for more mass in the sole. The three cavity design provides the structural support for the thin face. The sole width is 1.68" with a sole radius of 7". The bounce angle is only 1 degree in the DI through the 9 iron, but the sole width and radius provide just the right amount of effective bounce on the full swing shots. The combination of the sole width, bounce and radius make the Glider design almost impossible to hit fat. The steeper swing path player will experience a much more consistent and shallower divot pattern. The sweeper, with a more shallow swing path, will find the wide sole glides easily along the surface of the turf. With extremely low cg, the player with the sweeping type swing path will find getting the ball to the proper trajectory on every club very easy. The DI iron is so easy to hit off the tee, providing excellent distance and trajectory, that we decided to designate it a “Driving Iron” to encourage players to use it from the tee when hitting the fairway is a must.

The Glider sole design also increases your short game arsenal. The wide sole design works extremely well around the greens. The long and mid irons are perfect chip and run clubs from the fringe. The higher lofted Gliders work much like the extremely successful Sand and Lob Sliders, giving a player the consistency of trajectory and roll that is difficult to get with conventional designs.

GLIDER-X IRONS

  • Progressive, wide sole has ideal bounce and radius to prevent fat shots
  • High MOI of for extreme forgiveness on off center hits
  • Available in DI – 9, PW

Better than any hybrid
Reviewed By: Webster (Rowlett, TX)
I've been searching for long iron replacements for some time. I've tried virtually ever hybrid style out there; .335 tip, .370 tip, iron-like, wood-like, you name it. I was never able to find a hybrid that felt good at impact, was easy to hit, AND had iron like accuracy. On a whim I decided to build up a Glider X 4I (23*) and build it to match my iron set (same length progression, SW, and DGS300 shaft). FINALLY, I've found what I was looking for in a 'hybrid'. If these were at a demo day with all the OEM's they would be the star of the day if you could get people to try them.

Impressive

I have the Glider X 4,5 and Driving iron. The 5 iron has turned into my go to club. Goes straight, high and far...200 yds if I stand on it! What a security blanket.

excellent clubs

I ordered a glider 4-iron to test out this "unique" design. Wow, what a club. Pair this head with a quality shaft, and you've got a winner. I've had several mis-hits with it thinking they were going no where. Only to look up and see the ball flying toward the target. I'm definitely going to order the full set.
