Maltby 03 mallet
Reviewed By:
Eric P (London, UK)
Bought this because I wanted to try a mallet style putter. The component head was ideal because I hated offsets, which just about everything off-the-shelf have. Assembled with a TT single bend shaft with no offset and a Winn AVS grip. Unbelievable!! Beautiful feel off the 304 stainless face - soft, but with a crisp click on contact. Every bit as good as my best milled carbon steel blade putter.
I'm putting better with this than any of my current expensive blade putters. I'm now a mallet convert.
The face milling looks very true, although I'm not so keen on the black painted finish - think it'll start to chip and look shabby very quickly..
Weight of this head is spot on 400g; very heavy compared to the typical 340g of my blade putters. However this partially offset the short 32" length I'm using it at and just feels solid, giving a smooth tempo to my swing. Once I got used to the weight I don't notice any loss in feel or judgement.
This putter is definately going in the bag and my expensive putters going on ebay! Just can't beleive I'm replacing my top-of-the-line $200+ putter with something that costs $50..

A Solid Choice

I purchased the blade model and assembled it with the FST stepless shaft and Ping Finger-lock Grip. I'm satisfied with the weight and feel of the putter. The weight of the head almost demands a shorter finished length. A 35" putter with this head had a swingweight approaching the F range. My only gripe with this putter is the finish. the black looks spray-painted and comes off WAY to easily. For the money, however, it is hard to beat in performance.

Better than Ping
Reviewed By:
Jeff S (Grasonville, MD)
2 weeks ago, we had a Ping demo day at our Country Club, and I tried all of the various Ping putter models - even the most expensive ones even though they were way out of my price range. After assembling and playing the Maltby MSP2 blade, I find it every bit as good as the $250 Ping Redwood Black Satin, and better than any of the Karsten Series. The quality is flawless, and the milled face really is cool. It is solid, yet soft at the same time, and the slightly heavier weight really feels good and makes it even easier to keep the putter's line during the put. And...for only $32 total for head, shaft (FST stepless) and grip (Lamkin Crossline putter), this putter is a FAR better value than any of the Pings. Great job by the Maltby team on this one.
