Maltby MMB-17 Forged Iron Heads is rated 4.8182 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Clubs I have had two sets of Maltby MMB's. I had the original MMB's that were stolen along with my car and got the MMB-17's as the replacement set. I originally played a Honma PP 727 muscle back blade. The play-ability with these clubs is awesome. I can work the ball, well as much as balls allow you to these days. Additionally, they perform well in all conditions and are extremely forgiving with off center shots. Because they perform so well you don't get the same shocking feedback you would with traditional blades, but that is why you bought these right? My only complaint is the top line is double the size of my pp-727's and are also bigger than my old MMB's (still have the 5 iron, wasn't in the bag when stolen). If it came with a smaller top-line they would be a 10, right now I give them an 8.75 for that reason alone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great clubs but maybe a slight adjustment Great clubs, have had these fitted with KBS Tour and they are great. If I ever where to advice a change to this clubhead it would be to make the top line the same as the TE`s and the same with the offset. That would make it look even more like a real players club and probably still keep most of it MPF points..? A great iron for most golfers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very live I had to wait for these but I am glad I did. Initially I did not like them, but after getting the lie set correctly I am hitting them straight and consistently getting 5-10 extra yards throughout the set. Mis-hits do not penalize me any more than my previous clubs, and a hit in the center of the face feels effortless. I love the clean lines of this club.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product Heads feel great, nice soft feeling at impact. I'm able to work the ball both ways consistently and they are nice and forgiving. The weight relief in the long irons helps get the ball up in the air nicely. Even on off center hits, I dont feel like I'm losing a tremendous amount of distance. Awesome clubs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Irons Great Iron. Got them with the TT Dynamic Gold shaft in 7-GW paired with 4-6 TE irons. Top lines are little different, but swing weight, lofts and feel matches perfectly. Was looking for a progressive set and built my own. Soft feel, consistent yardages - great clubs - very, very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Hitting!!!! Decided to try with Grafattack R shaft........7 iron. Started just to get the feel hitting knockdown one half shots and I was actually reaching 165 with ease.....I really like the look of the club also......but, most importantly they have good feel and feedback is good. The sweet spot is not to tight in my mind. If you swing this club easy you get big rewards. I will be playing them 5-PW from now on. I have always played Hogan forged, these feel better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything the DMB and TE irons aren't! I have played other TE Maltby irons but sold those as they were just too numb feeling - impossible to tell where on the clubface I hit it. Sure, incredibly forgiving, but didn't help my game. These MMB 17s don't have that problem - they give you JUST enough feedback that you can adjust your swing, but yet they are super forgiving. My only wish is that they were also offered in the black color of the DMBs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long soft feel, and deadly accurate. I like the shot control, trajectory and feel of them, not to mention the clean compact appearance behind the ball. The forgiveness factor is excellent. Off center hits were not bad and center hits were ever better. I firmly believe that more golfers can play blades than you might think - maybe even you !

How do your two sets of forged Iron Heads differ?

Asked by: Garry Bear
If you are referring to the DBM and TE Forged the basic difference is the finish. The DBM irons also have 1 degree less loft. The MMB-17 is actually a form forged head where the DBM and TE Forged are true forged irons. A form forged head is first poured into a mold and then they use one forging tool in a forging press to bring it to it's final size and shape. The DBM and TE forged are created using 5 forging tools in a forging press. The MMB-17 has a higher vertical center of gravity .741", for a lower ball flight compared to the DBM and TE at .675". The MMB -17 has a little thicker top line then the DBM and TE. You can see all the clubhead specification measurements at this link on our web site. http://www.golfworks.com/images/art/MPF_MALTBY.pdf

Can I use taper tip shafts in these( like the dbm,te) or will I have to shim them?

Asked by: Hambone67
The MMB-17 irons do not have the Universal hosel like the DBM and TE irons. You will need to use a SHIM to install .355" taper tips shafts. The SHIMT works well. http://www.golfworks.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_SHIM

how is the ball flight with these compared to the TE's or dbm's.

Asked by: victmor
From having played with both of these irons I would tell you the MMB-17 has a slightly lower ball flight. It has a slightly higher vertical center of gravity.

Is it possible to get these in the same wt, lie angle, and bounce, through out the set?

Asked by: DJHaze
No we would not have these with the same weight, lie angle and bounce through out the set. If you are looking to assemble a single length set of irons we do not manufacture any iron heads that will support that system.
