Experimenting with graphite

I've never used graphite shafts in anything except a driver, thought I would try some graphite shafted 3-woods and this kit is a great bargain. I ordered the R shaft and assembled it at 43" club length. So far my results are mixed - the club feels solid at impact and the trajectory is good, and hits straight if I do my part. But I'm losing about 10 yards distance compared to my steel shafted 3-wood. I'm going to apply some lead tape and see if that helps.
