Trimming Instructions

Project X Rifle Taper Tip Iron Shafts is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Project X Rifle Flighted 6.0 Changed from Dynamic Gold S300 to the 6.0 Rifle Flighted. Good quality shafts, stiffer than my DG S300's. Spined them and there were some shafts with a mild spine and some with a more prominent spine. Overall a good shaft, haven't played them long enough to have a feel regarding the trajectory.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Project X Rifle Shaft 5.0 My only complaint is that the golf works didn't offer the 4.0 or the 4.5 shaft. My opinion is that unless you are a low handicap player and strong the 5.0 version is too strong of a shaft for most of us...! Would I recommend this product? Yes but the correct shaft number for the average player.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick & Efficient Needed a 5 iron shaft ASAP - ordered on a Sunday afternoon, received it on Wednesday and in my bag for a tournament on Thursday. Fast shipping and very simple to order. will come here again to order any shafts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best shafts on the market. You can really feel the shaft release at impact. Have them in woods irons wedges. 6.0 stiff.

If you butt trim the project x riffle shafts , why do the sell them as individual iron # . I need a replacement shaft for a ap 2 9 iron that is 36.5 long

Asked by: tom
Basically all shafts are manufactured longer then the finished length of the clubs they are being installed into to allow for over length club assembly if someone needs that. All the manufactures have to butt cut these shafts as well when they assemble the clubs. For the Project X Rifle shaft you would use the 37.5" shaft for the 9 iron. We do offer a shaft prep service where we will cut the shaft to the finished length and sand the tip of the shaft so all you would need to do is install the shaft and not have to do any cutting. The charge for the shaft prep is $4.95 per shaft.

What are the lengths increments of the Project x riffle shafts.

Asked by: tom
The raw lengths are as follows: 1 iron = 41.5" 2 iron = 41" 3 iron = 40.5" 4 iron = 40" 5 iron = 39.5" 6 iron = 39" 7 iron = 38.5" 8 iron = 38" 9 iron = 37.5" Wedges = 37"

I like the project x steel shafts but am getting old and would like to re shaft my clubs. My club fitter says I need a softer shaft than 5.0. can they be steped down to 4.5 by using a 5.0 flex 4 iron shaft in a 5 iron head? or is there another process.

Asked by: Steve
Yes you can soft step the 5.0. Soft stepping one club, 4 iron into the 5 iron will change the frequency from a 5.0 to approximately a 4.7 to 4.6 frequency. They change approximately 3 to 4 cpm's per 1/2". They do not manufacture this shaft in a 4.5 flex so soft stepping one or two clubs is the only option. We are showing back order on the 7 iron shaft, which is due in right around July 1st.

What is the difference between flighted and none flighted as far stiffed torque?

Asked by: golfdawg71
Stiffness and torque was the same for both the Flighted and Non Flighted Rifle shafts. There was a slight trajectory difference in these shafts with the Flighted have a little higher ball flight in the long irons and a little lower ball flight in the short irons. That was the basic difference.

If i buy  irons b one inch longer than standard will that make the shaft more flexible? I am buying a set of irons with 6.0 Project X Taper Tip shafts one inch longer.  I heard if the builder only trims the butt end the frequency would be reduced

Asked by: barney
There are few things that come into play here. Royal Precision shaft flexes were always based on a 37.5" length for a 5 iron, D3 swingweight on an iron design with a 2.5" hosel length and a 1.25" hosel bore depth. Using that as a base and running the calculations on an old frequency calculator from Royal Precision it shows your 6.0 flex would stay a 6.0 at the 1" longer length (38.5" #5 iron). Without knowing the exact specifications for your clubs it is hard to calculate for sure just where the flex will end up but it should stay pretty close. You can not tip trim a taper tip shaft because it would no longer fit into the taper hosel bore.

I have the rifle project x flighted 6.0 shafts. I need a replacement one for my 7 iron which I had extended 1.25". Are these the flighted shafts and which length would I need based on the extension? Thank you

Asked by: Steve72
Project X Flighted iron shafts were discontinued by Royal Precision a few years ago and we no longer have any of the individual shafts left in stock. The RP0009I is the Project X and is the only steel shaft Royal Precision offers these days. It would still be the closest replacement shaft for the Flighted shaft you have. You would order the 7 iron shaft in the 6.0 flex. Your shaft would have been butt cut to length when the clubs were first made and then the 1.25" extension was added. You will likely not need to use an extension when you reshaft. The raw lengths are quite a bit longer before they are cut to finished length.

is    5.5 areg  shaft

Asked by: george
5.0 is closer to a normal R flex. 5.5 would be in between and even a little closer to the S flex side.
