This does not sound correct. When you add 1/2" to a club length the swingweight should get heavier and with an extension generally by 2 to 2.5 swingweights. So if your swingweight was D1.5 to begin with when you added the extension the swingweight should have went to D2.5 to D3. Unless you used heavier grips then what you had installed before. A 4 gram change of grip weight is equal to 1 swingweight. If the grip is heavier the swingweight gets lighter and if the grip is lighter the swingweight gets heavier. The change in swingweight whether you use steel or alunimum will stay the same because it is a factor of added length to the club. The aluminum extension are not that much lighter then the steel extension because the walls are thicker with the aluminum extension for durability. That thickness adds weight.
