FST 115 Steel Iron Shafts

The FST 115 Steel Iron Shaft is lightweight and is designed to increase ball flight without sacrificing consistency and control.

Features:
  • .370" tip diameter
  • Lighter weight allows the clubmaker to use a lower center of gravity head or more head mass without increasing overall club weight

Trimming Instructions

FST 115 Steel Iron Shafts is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performer for the average swing This shaft in the S/X flex is a great value and the ideal performer for the aggressive/fast swinger with a typical early hand release. And for such a player, it has great action at impact. It also launches high without ballooning to help gain a few extra yards. But because it has less than firm tip stiffness with a mid-kick point, it may feel a bit unstable at impact for the hard swinger with a Sergio Garcia-esque late hand release. But then again, that's not who it's really designed for. The FST 125 Pro would be better suited for such a swing. Also, this shaft feels a bit softer overall than the Dynamic Gold XP S300 which has a comparable bend profile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shaft For My Longest Irons My swing speed is 103 MPH with a moderate tempo. I was playing a 4 and 5 hybrid but then I reshafted my 4 and 5 iron with the FST 115 shaft. I can hit the ball higher than with the similar Rifle shaft. The distance matches the hybrids and I love the soft, solid feel of this shaft. I am very pleased with the shaft, pricing and quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big fan of this shaft. Bought this shaft last year to replace a broken Taylormade Rocketbladez 4-iron as they don't sell the stock shaft. Once I shattered my 7-iron this year, I knew this was the shaft to buy again.

Is this the stock shaft for the Cobra Max set?

Asked by: MikeH
In the Cobra Max irons Cobra did use a FST steel shaft. I do not know if the stock shaft was the FST 115 but the specifications are pretty close. The FST 115 would make a very good replacement.

what is the process of tip and butt trimming?

Asked by: Buddy
Tip and Butt trimming is where we prep the shaft by cutting to flex from the tip and cut to the finished length for you club or clubs from the butt (grip) end. We also sand the tip of the shaft. With this service when you receive the shaft you will just need to install the shaft you will not have to do any trimming or sanding.

The recommended ferrule for the FST 115 fits very tight and requires brute force to get it up the shaft. Is there an alternative or are the ferrule tools used to accomplish this. Thanks!

Asked by: Birddog
If ferrule fit loose they will come loose. They are designed to fit tight. A ferrule installation tool is always recommended. The GW0123 Ferrule Installation Tool works well. Another thing that helps make ferrule installation easier is to put a thin layer of epoxy on the tip of the shaft during assembly. The epoxy will act as a lubricant and make getting the ferrules on easier. It also secures the ferrule from coming loose later on. I worked for Cobra years ago and we always used the epoxy method to help with epoxy installation.

Do you have any experience or feedback on soft-stepping the 115 S shafts?

Asked by: Birddog
The FST 115 S flex shafts test and play more flexible then normal so just installing them to a standard S flex would be like soft stepping other shafts and even soft stepping other shafts by two shafts.

I have rocketbladez tours with the kbs tour shafts. I want c tapers, but will the fst 115 be comparable? If so, would it be the 115 pros or the regular?

Asked by: Jim
No the 115 Pro FST shafts will not play anything like the C-Taper shafts. The C-Tapers are designed to hit a low ball flight and test a little stiffer then normal. The FST 115 Pro is designed for a mid trajectory and tests and plays more flexible then normal. Also the Rocketbladz tour irons use a .355" taper tip shaft and the FST 115 Pro shafts are only available in a .370" parallel tip.

Looking to reshaft two old Orlimar Trimetals one is 17 degrees and one is 13 degrees,I know they will fit but would like to know how to tip them?

Asked by: Sockhill
Keep in mind that iron shafts are designed to be used with iron clubhead weights. A 3 iron clubhead weights in the 240 gram range compared to the 17 degree Trimetal that probably weights in the 215 gram range and the 13 degree in the 210 gram range. The shafts are going to play stiffer in these fairway woods then in irons because of the lighter clubhead weights. I would not tip trim anything for the 13 degree and trim 1/2" for the 17 degree and then butt cut to your finished length. That will keep these shafts as flexible as you can for these woods and hopefully not play to stiff.

Will these FST 115 A/R fit my Ping Eye 2 iron heads?

Asked by: Anonymous
No the FST 115 A/R shafts will not fit the Ping Eye 2 irons. The Ping Eye 2 irons use a .355" taper tip shaft and the FST 115 shaft is only available in a .370" parallel tip size. The Ping Eye 2 irons would have to be rebored to accept a .370" tip size shaft.

I am trying to replace my 6 and 7 iron TaylorMade Burner 2.0 iron. They are 85 R shaft. Which shaft do I need? I usually need a little more than regular shaft but short of stiff. Firm is what I'm looking for. Swing speed 100-105.

Asked by: Buddy
The FST 115 (FS0012) could be a good replacement but is heavier then the stock 85 gram weight shaft in the Burner 2.0 irons. Another option would be the True Temper XP95 (TT0113). It is closer in weight to the 85 gram Taylor Made shaft with similar playing characteristics. https://www.golfworks.com/true-temper-dynamic-gold-xp95-steel-iron-shafts/p/TT0113/
