KBS Tour C-Taper Shaft Specs

KBS Tour C-Taper Steel Iron Shafts is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from KBS R+ .355 Iron Shaft Great transition shaft for aging players. I am 68 and still strike the ball reasonably well, but have lost some distance the past ten years. The ten gram weight reduction from the DG-S300 shafts I used to play made a big difference. I now have gone to graphite in everything except putter and wedges. This KBS R+ is the perfect wedge shaft. The low launch combined with the high loft in a wedge delivers more distance with less effort. The cpm with grip will be about 340 and within 1 cpm regardless how orientated. Still suggest a spine check as all steel shafts have one and it does affect feel if not play. Driver swing speed 92-95 mph.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Just for hard swingers The C-Taper shafts were designed to fit a very specific group of players who hit the ball very high due to very high swing speeds - for these elite players the C-Tapers was designed for them. Those of us outside of this group the shaft will still help lower trajectory and correct our balloned shots (due to swing fault of flipping rather than due to high ball speeds). However we often make the mistake of just buying the same flex in the C-Taper from what we've been using and ends up with a shaft that is way too stiff - the C-Tapers is about 1/3 of a flex stiffer than comparable shafts. KBS recommends soft stepping C-Tapers once or twice to make it more playable for us average joes. I first started playing C-Taper S+ straight in, felt it required very good swings to get anything out of it, then went to PXi (too light), DGS300 (too much spin), and now back to C-Taper S+ but soft stepped twice (bring flex down from 6.7 to 6.1 which is closer to a standard S-flex KBS T

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bionic shafts I normally play X100 TT but I put an S+ in a callaway apex CF16 8 iron as an experiment and the distance gain was shocking. Somehow this shaft, in this flex, in this head are like magic for me. My irons are actually bent 2 degrees weak from Apex standard lofts to more traditional lofts and somehow this 8 iron is carrying 180-185 yards with range balls. It's Freaky. I really don't understand it. My "normal" 8 iron distance with nearly any club has been 165 for decades. I'm not sure why so many people say they feel harsh, but to me they feel quite soft and smooth. I put a sensicore in it and it's wonderful. I just bought the rest of the shafts to switch out my whole set. They do run a bit stiff so be careful with fitting. Now I have to figure out if I need another wedge because these are so freakishly long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from unreal i have about 10 rounds on these shafts in the s+ flex. i have played every shaft on the market, and these have no comparison. better feel, longer, awesome penetrating ballflight, and the tightest dispersion ive ever seen. picked up 10+ yds per club over the rifle 6.0's ive played for the last 5 yrs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for low handicaps I'm handicap +1,5 (euro) and been playing KBS Tour X 130g for many years. Decided to change one of my golf set with the C-taper 130 X (apex pro). I'm happy that I did, I've lost some feeling but working the ball, the flight is more stable, more deep and less spin, consequently more distance. (5-8 yards). I would not recommend this shaft if you are looking for feeling, when you miss, you will feel it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 100% agree with the above poster I 100% agree with the comments by Mike Williford as above. I was fit for the X-stiff (6 iron swing speed 95-98mph with ball speed 130/driver SS 110-118, .25 inch short, 2degrees flat) and have played x100 and PX6.5. I think he is right on the money saying that they require attention and commitment- I feel these play stiffer than x100 and PX6.5 and as far as the 5%/5%/5%, I would definitely agree with the 5% less spin (this was the reason I went with the Ctaper)- for me drop and stop- no sucking back- 3-4-5 iron maybe 5 to 8 feet of roll out. As for the 5% lower trajectory and 5% more distance- not so much- but this is for ME and may not apply to you. I have them in 712/AP2 and I had to de-loft (1-1.5 degrees)my 6-PW to get back to my normal distances and lower the ball flight- I was losing distance when the ball ballooned farther down range and fell straight out of the sky- granted, Titleist has weaker lofts than say Mizuno.... As a test I ordered a S+ shaft and p

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get Fit I started with the new KBS C-Taper shafts in the stiff + and was so excited to play these amazing new shafts that made such claims as the 5% gain distance, 5% lower traq. and 5% less spin. I am currently a 4.7 handicap that plays at least twice a week here in North Scottsdale. Driver speed 105 good for around 275-280 yards. Iron play is pretty consistent on most days. I have played x-100's, Px 5.5 and Px 6.0, and KBS tour stiff over the last couple of years. What I found is that these play stiffer than you think they will. I used the KBS fitting system on their website and KBS suggested I use the stiff +. So about $250.00 later I had some in my Miura CB501's. They require a lot of attention to hit well, you can't just swing away and have fun. If I put a great swing on the shot the shaft performed as advertised, but anything less than perfect had adverse affects on the outcome. After several rounds I conceded defeat and went back to my KBS tour stiffs, but it s

How would a 2 iron extra stiff kbs c taper shaft behave if it was cut down to be used with a 52* wedge? I have an extra shaft and wedge head. Laying around. Thank you

Asked by: Eric
It would play very flexible and in cutting it to length you would likely cut away the .600" parallel butt section and have to tape the butt end of the shaft to correctly size the grip. It is one of those things that the only way you will find out how it works is to do it. As an old clubmaker friend of mine once told me we will keep wondering how it works so at some point we should just try it.

Hi, I recently purchased a TaylorMade RSI TP UDI #3 Iron (20° loft) and it has a KBS C-Tape Lite Stiff shaft. I love this club, but the rest of my irons are an inch longer than standard and 2° upright (because I'm 6'4"). Need correct replacement shaft.

Asked by: joshuahunter80
With the KBS C-Taper Lite the 40.5"" raw length shaft is the 3 iron shaft and would be the shaft you would need for the UDI #3 iron. You will install the shaft and butt cut to your finished length.

I have an extra KBS C-Taper 9 iron shaft raw length of 37.5 inches. I would like to extend it to 38.5 inches and put it on my Taylormade Tour Preferred UDI 1 iron head that I bought with no shaft. Would the shaft work properly if I do this? Please advice.

Asked by: Eric
No, this shaft would not work properly. It would play much stiffer. With the KBS C-Taper shafts there is a shaft made for each iron so the 9 iron shaft is designed to flex and bend with the weight of a 9 iron head which is generally in the 284 gram weight range. Installing the UDI 1 iron head with a club head weight in the 235 gram weight range would not make the 9 iron shaft flex and bend the way it was designed. It will play much stiffer. In the C-Taper shafts even the 41" raw length shaft is designed to be used in a 2 iron but would still likely work well in the UDI 1 iron.

I want these, but there are widespread reports of bending at the hosel, even in the X after very limited use due to the fact that the tips aren't reinforced. Is this a concern? I'm 96MPH 6 iron in Canada off mats a good part of the year.

Asked by: Trevor D
I have not heard of a tip bending problem with KBS C-Taper shafts or any KBS shafts for that matter. I did a Google search to see what I could find and I did come up with a few links where shaft tips have bent but nothing that I would call wide spread. It can happen with any steel shaft especially with more mats being used. Mats create club repair. They always have and they always will. You will get shafts bending and you will get forged iron heads bending. There are a number of Tour Players that use the KBS C-Taper shafts. I know Justin Rose is one. I certainly cannot promise you or guarantee to you that they will not bend. It is the nature of the beast type of thing and it does happen from time to time.

Hello. This is Kazu. How are you? I have TaylorMade TOUR PREFERRED MB Irons. I am wondering if these KBS shafts will fit into them. Thank you.

Asked by: Kazuhiro
Yes the C-taper FS0026 shafts will fit the Tour Preferred MB irons.

Will the c taper 9/PW work for the gap and sand wedge, or is there a special shaft for those? I am after the same characteristics of low flight, less spin with these shafts and want to replace my current Dynamic Gold S200 shafts in those two clubs.

Asked by: Andy
With the C-Taper shafts the 37.5" raw length shaft is for the 9 iron and all the wedges. KBS does not make a specific wedge shaft in the C-Tapers.

If my clubs are +1/2 inch over standard is that the same as one soft step?  Also, how does the S+ compare flex wise to the project X 6.0?

Asked by: VinceWP
No not really. At +1/2" the shaft flex really does not change much if at all. The butt end of the shaft is the stiffest end of the shaft so increasing the length by 1/2" at the butt end increases the length of the butt section and makes the shaft a little stiffer. The increase of 3 swingweights created by the 1/2" of length offset that stiffness increase and the shaft flex basically stays the same. In our shaft test data the C-Taper S+ tested stiffer then the Project X 6.0 over the full length of the shaft. The C-Taper S matched closer to the 6.0 with the exception that the C-Taper S was still stiffer in the tip section.

What is the difference between the c-taper stiff 120 wedge shaft and the custom 130 stiff shaft? Pros or cons 1 vs the other? I have c-taper 120 stiffs in my clevelands. I'm looking to replace shafts in my vokey sm6's?? Thank you

Asked by: Raha17
The weight of the C-Taper at 120 grams is lighter then the Custom at 130 grams. The Custom wedge shaft is designed to create a mid trajectory and the C-Taper is designed to produce a low trajectory and lower spin rate.
