Maltby Design Golf Shaft Deflection Board

Shaft manufacturers employ various methods of measuring shaft flex, and some shaft models vary in flex considerably from shaft to shaft. The Golf Shaft Deflection Board gives the serious clubfitter a tool to compare a shaft’s exact flexibility to industry standards or to other shafts. By mounting the shaft on the board and installing the 7 lb. weight on the tip, the flex can be read from the color coded line where the tip is positioned. Color coding identifies X, S, R, A and L flexes. In addition, the curvature of different shafts can be compared to establish where flex is concentrated: at the tip, in the middle, or toward the butt end. Not recommended for shafts 75 grams and under.
  • Engineered to be the best on the market
  • Eliminates guesswork

  • Looks great on the shop wall!
The high quality Golf Shaft Deflection Board is made from oak plywood and steel. Weighing only 20 lbs., it can be securely attached to a wall with the included toggle bolts. Instructions for use are included.

Please Note: Additional shipping charges required due to weight.
Maltby Design Golf Shaft Deflection Board is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Golf Club Maker Must Have This board is "must have" for anyone who is serious about their golf equipment and equipment performance. Had purchased a new set of iron shafts and with the use of this board determined I received a variety of shaft stiffness that I didn't want.

Is it critical on how far the shaft goes into the tube? Does it change if there is a grip on the shaft?

Asked by: Samj
Generally we would recommend putting the shaft all the way to the backstop. However if you are trying to compare a cut shaft to an uncut shaft you may not put it all the way to the backstop. It does not matter if a grip is installed. The starting point with the Deflection Board is always to get the bottom edge of the shaft parallel to the top line on the graph, whether it is gripped or ungripped.

Does Golfworks sell a 4 lb.wgt for the Deflection Board (GSDB). If so, the product number & approx. cost.

Asked by: OBie
At one point we did make a separate 4 lb. weight and in checking the computer it shows we still have 1 left in stock. The order code is GSDBWT4LBS. This code will not show up on the web site so it would be best to call in this order. These days we sell a 7 lb weight that is made up of a 4 lb and 3 lb weights that are threaded together. The order code for this weight is GSDBWT.

are there deflection boards that will measure shafts as light as 50 grams and shorter than 43 inches?

Asked by: krakow bob
The Golfworks deflection board (GSDB) comes with the option of a 7 lb. weight for shafts over 75 grams and a 4 pound weight for shafts under 75 grams (and can be used on shafts as light as 50 grams). There should be no issues using the 4 lb. weight with a 50 gram shaft, 43 inches in length.
