Maltby KE4 Tour HDI Hybrid Views

The new and improved Maltby KE4 Tour HDI hybrid design is probably closer to what a real hybrid should be vs. hybrid designs that are more influenced by metal wood shapes. With a low and deep center of gravity, a progressive wide sole design, adjustable head weighting and a very thin high strength forged MS300 face material (with the added bonus of being able to adjust loft and lie), the HDI hybrid design is perfect for dialing in the exact distances and trajectories required by any type of player. Whether your looking for maximum distance or simply trying to replace those hard to hit long irons, you owe it to yourself to try one of these amazingly easy to hit KE4 Tour HDI hybrids. The KE4 Tour HDI hybrid also features a DBM (Diamonized Black Metal) finish that is chemically implanted and more wear, corrosion and scratch resistant than typical black PVD finishes.

New and improved for 2014, the KE4 Tour HDI hybrids feature additional loft options, deeper etched scoring lines, a slightly longer hosel for increased bend-ability, triangle screw weights and improved cosmetics.

    KE4 Tour HDI Features

  • Hollow construction design with AST (Advanced Shell Technology) to insure mass and dimensional stability.
  • A very thin 1.85mm forged MS300 high strength steel face produces a high COR for increased ball speeds.
  • Body is precision cast from 1020C Carbon Steel.
  • Loft and lie adjustable (+/- 1 degree)
  • Design profile morphs more from a tradition iron design shape with added playability features above and beyond those only found in modern hybrid design shapes.
  • High MOI (moment of inertia) and progressive sole widths for added forgiveness.
  • Weight adjustable using any of our KE4 weight screws for endless shaft length and weight options.
  • Black DBM finish for the highest possible finish durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally switched to a 3 iron hybrid I finally replaced the 3 iron that I had recently had trouble getting a consistent distance with. I bought one of these heads and fitted it with a DG X100 shaft to match my irons. Absolutely a great move to go to this club. I'll likely buy the 4 iron as well. Very easy to hit. Ball goes high off the club face with the 220 yds I'm used to out of a 3 iron.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Probably the best HDI ever - Better than Ping G It's a shame these are being discontinued, they're an absolutely phenomenal club. Great as a driving iron or off the fairway - Works well with an iron shaft or a hybrid shaft, steel or graphite and the flight is sooooo good. Put a 3 HDI against the ping G crossover - no contest. Flew 5 yards farther, landed nice and soft, and for the price difference, it's just a no-brainer. Wish they would bring these back, at least in the 1 and 2 only. After building the last one i had, guys have seen it and are clamoring for them as driving irons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't eliminate this Beautiful design! I recently sold my Titleist AP2'S and had Golf Works fit me for a set of the DBM forged irons which perform much better than my AP2's. I too, needed either a 5 wood or hybrid and went with this KE4 tour hdi 2H. It rockets off the Face! I was told today that I purchased 1 of the last heads available. Golf Works, keep making a few of these heads! There is people like me that love it and will be promoting this beautiful club to friends I play with!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Clib I needed a club that I could use to find fairways on tight holes. I picked up the Tour HDI 3 Hybrid, and I couldn't be happier. I hit the club fairly long, but more importantly my miss hits are not penalized nearly as much as other clubs I have used. I will suggest this club to anybody for an easy to hit, straight club. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to hit I bought a 4-iron head to replace my Maltby TE forged 4-iron. Similar length and trajectory, but so much easier to hit. Excellent product.

Why are these being discontinued.  It seems like a lot of people really like them.  I prefer irons over woods, and think this would be great in the bag

Asked by: Derek
We discontinued these because they did not sell well. We had good feedback from them but they just did not sell well enough for us.

Please recommend a few options in a quality regular flex graphite shaft in black, grey, or silver that would pair well with the KE4 HDI hybrid irons.

Asked by: Joe
The Kuro Kage Black 2nd Gen hybrid shaft we offer in this Club Pak for this club matches up well and could work well. The new UST IROD Hybrid (US0098) could also be a good choice. The Aldila Rogue Black Hybrid 85 (AL0049) The Xcaliber Pro Hybrid (AS0047) Any of these shafts could match well with the HDI Hybrid. It just depends on which one might best fit the specifications you need.

Does the screw come out and powder go in

Asked by: Alan
the screw is a weight to fine tune your swingweight. These are offered in 2,4,6,8,10,12 and 14 grams. A 6 gram screw comes pre installed in the club.

Are these on the USGA list of approved clubs?  If not, are there any plans to get them approved?

Asked by: ChrisS
No these have not been submitted to the USGA for testing. They have been designed to be conforming but we have not yet submitted them. At some point we would probably submit but at this time I cannot say when for sure.

What weight shaft would I have to use in the HDI hybrid-3, 39 in. long, 50g grip to get a swing wt. of D-2?

Asked by: Dan
If I calculate with a Dynamic Gold S300 steel shaft at 39" the swingweight would be approximately D1.5. You would need to change the adjustable weight that comes in the head from a 6 gram weight an 8 gram weight. The adjustable weight is available from 2 grams up to 14 grams in 2 gram increments. With an 80 gram graphite shaft at 39" the swingweight would be C6 and even changing to a 14 gram weight would only get you up to D0. You would also have to add a tip weight in the tip end of the shaft to get to D2.
