Would this shaft be a good replacement for a Taylormade R7 9 iron in stiff flex? Any different options similar or close to OEM?

The stock steel shaft in the R7 irons was listed as a T Step Ultralite and weighted 90 grams. I would suggest either the FST 90 (FS0011) or the True Temper XP 95 (TT0113). Both of these have similar weights and playing characteristics. These days Taylor Made does get most of their stock steel shafts from FST.

Is there a reason these shafts are one half inch longer than the 950GH and 1150GH shafts?

My guess is like graphite they are so lite that the extra lent won't weight anymore than with standard steel. The advantage is getting a bit more speed with the same swing.
