The GolfWorks V-Groove Grip Remover

A great tool for removing grips. The v-shape provides a channel to funnel solvent to where you need it most, loosening the tape, and it also strengthens the tool to give you some leverage to work the grip loose. If you are removing the grip to butt trim or extend the shaft, you can re-use the grip after using this tool.

Simply fold back the lip on the grip and slide the tool underneath. Pour a bit of solvent in the groove as you work up and around the grip. A little bit of patience will go along way as you let the solvent do its work.

Note: The V-Groove Grip Remover may not work well with cord grips or Winn grips, grips that have underlistings or grips that do not stretch a bit.

The GolfWorks V-Groove Grip Remover is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 97.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tool This is a must for anyone who works on golf clubs. It removes grips very easily, even the largest Winn 1.60 putter grips. Simply push it underneath the grip and add some solvent under the grip then work the tool around the shaft and continue to push it towards the end of the grip while adding solvent occasionally. Then the grip will just pull off (just leave the tool in place until the grip is completely removed) and is undamaged. It's a great way to preserve a grip if you'd like to reuse it later or if you're deciding on a putter grip and want to change them out during the season. There are no drawbacks to this tool

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Tool I've been doing amateur club repair for 30 yrs. and don't know why I never bought this before. In the span of 20 minutes I removed a Scotty Cameron Pistolini grip, Super Stroke 2.0 Midslim and a Winn type Mamiya grip saving me $60 in replacement grips. Review by Rouseman is right on. For me keeping the tool inside the grip when I hit the butt end and the grip was free and holding it securely while a buddy twisted and pulled the shaft out, rather than twisting the grip. Great product that already paid for itself 3 times over.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Suggeswted modofications After puncturing a Winn Lite grip I filed down the tip to sharpen it and round it off making it much easier to insert and work downward. It's also easier with the V facing away from the shaft, which does not appear to be the way you intended it. Suggest also putting some curvature on the blade to conform to the shaft diameter and/or tapering the edges to make them thinner. I've been using letter openers and barbeque skewers for yeas to take grips off. This device is much easier but could be improved with a couple of tweaks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fast & effective After removing a couple of grips, I started to insert the tool first on one side of the shaft, then the other side, each time with a couple of squirts of solvent. Grips came off in minutes by twisting and pulling. Saved a full set of grips. This tool pays for itself each time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good move I occasionally want to change/save a grip. I was using a makeshift coat hanger device (Youtube) to do this. I managed to use this "tool" successfully, but it was a real chore. I finally wised up and purchased the V-Groove tool and it was like someone turned on the lights. This is a great tool. Don't struggle with grip removal. Get this tool. You will be a happy camper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product This is a great product, once you figure out how to use it. As you insert the tool between the grip and the shaft adding solvent, you twist the haldle of the tool, which will rotate the tool around the shaft and you gradually go further down the grip, adding solvent as the tool goes deeper toward the button end of the grip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Removed three grips in about 5 minutes Got this just today. Took it to the workshop just to try it out. Next thing I know I have three grips done. A little solvent, a little elbow grease and I have three clubs ready for the new grips. Amazing what the proper tool can do for a job. Easy to use. Only experience with grip removal before this was a video on youtube.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well but I bought the wrong one I bought the longer one for some reason and wish I got the regular one. I don't think you would need the 20" one unless you need to remove long putter grips. It does work well however, you just have to be patient and use enough solvent while being careful of not overstretching the mouth of the grip.

Is this the took, with a wire bent in half and attached into the off-set handle. The rod was smooth on the end, so it would not snag on the grip. I purchased one from you a few years ago and would like another. I do not like the V grove solid type.

Asked by: Bigalfromcal
No, we do not have the grip remover with the wire. That was an item sold by Golfsmith and they are no longer in business. We sell only the V-Groove solid type.

Can this tool be used to remove tape residue from a grip?

Asked by: TWO_PUTT
The V-Groove Grip Remover is not designed to remove tape residue from inside the grip. We use the Grip Bore Cleaner (GBCT) brush for cleaning residue from inside the grip.

Can the old tape be used if I am removing the Grips to add a reminder rib? They are new grips less than 1 year, if I add another layer of tape over the existing old tape will there be any problem. Thanks in advance.

Asked by: iron Byron
My rule of thumb is to remove the old tape. I would always remove the old layer of double sided tape and install a new layer. If you do not remove the old double sided tape and install a new piece over the top of the old it will increase the grip size and could increase it as much as + 1/64" or .015".

1st Question: Does this v groove tool fit over most shafts under the grips and does it work better than a straight blade removal tool? 2nd Question: Does your tape renal tool work well on graphite shafts without removing shaft material?

Asked by: Rick
Just sharing a trick, I use on graphite shafts with the grip tape stripper. Keep the tool clean, it will help you prevent gouges in the finish coating of the shafts. That may sound obvious but as you work through a set of clubs you get bits and pieces of tape and crud that mispositions your blade. I keep two tools in a narrow tall jar of grip solvent so the blades stay moist. The wife says it looks like her father’s barbershop comb jar. Since the blades stay moistened with solvent it helps cut the adhesive putting less pressure on the coating.
