Maltby KE4 S Iron Clubhead Specifications

Maltby KE4 S Iron Heads is rated 4.571428571428571 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Performance Bought a 7 iron head some time back. Have tried it with several steel and graphite shafts. With a UST IRN graphite shaft this club is very easy to hit and long. It has a nice medium ball flight. Good off center hit performance. A high quality club for sure. This head is more compact than other super game improvement heads out there, and the sole width is in the medium range. If you want a giant head or a very wide sole look elsewhere. Despite being more compact than some of those SGI or GI shovels, I find it just as easy to hit. I have played some TaylorMade RBZ irons over the last year, and this head performs as well or better than the TaylorMades.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet! I have used many of the Maltby iron products the last several years and I was quite suprised with the feel of these irons. When struck dead center the feel is SWEET! When struck off center a little they are still solid, bit the feedback is enough to let you know you missed the shot. I assembled them with the axe tour x 95g iron shaft in a stiff flex and golf pride cp 2 pro grip. After adjusting to the (modern) jacked up lofts, I have hit some of the best iron shots I have hit in years. Make no mistake these irons are long, accurate and easy to hit in addition to an ALMOST forged feel. The appearance is not clunky at all at and honestly very eye appealing in the bag. Do not be afraid to give these a try!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ONE OF THE BEST THEY HAVE EVER DESIGNED I PUT TOGETHER A SET 6--GW OF THESE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND HAVE FOUND THEM TO BE THE BEST OF THE KE 4 LOT. COMPLETE ADJUSTABILITY WITH WEIGHTS. I BOUGHT A FEW EXTRA WEIGHTS AND MADE ALL THE HEADS MATCH TO A GREAT MOI SET. I LOVE THE FACT THA MALTBY RATES THE HEADS WITH A PLAYABILITY FACTOR AND USE THAT WHEN PICKING A HEAD TO TEST. TRIED DIFFERENT SHAFTS AND FINALLY GOT A GOOD MATCH FOR ME. I PLAY GOLF EVERY DAY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first custom clubs I recently retired and promised myself a set of proper tools. Chose these after hitting a test club. These feel great...straight and long. Anxious to see if the clubs and more practice change my game dramatically.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value I mainly use hybrids and wanted to go to R flex in 7-PW. Instead of paying top dollar for a set and not using all of them - I use hybrids 6 & up - I had GW make these. I have played GW heads before and was very happy. The assembled clubs have gotten great remarks from others. Love the feel and playability of these.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Gap wedge Only bought gap wedge head to try out. Very disappointed! I have given this club a good try on practice tee and course and have tried to adjust feel with lead tape. No feel to it. "Clunky" might best discribe it's feel, especially chipping. No longer in my bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from KE4-S: Maximum versatility in an iron head Except for an 18 year stretch when I gave up golf, I've been fascinated with the clubs offered by The Golfworks since I was selling clubs in a pro shop in the mid-1980's. In my opinion, the KE4-S is the best iron head Golfworks has produced. In addition, I think this club has raised the bar of iron design by offering the two weight ports with a wide range of adjustability. The club head comes equipped with two 4 gram weights installed. It is neatly shrink wrapped in plastic to protect it during shipping. The club design is a very normal/modern game improvement design. It has beautiful rounded edges and a moderately thick top line (not too thick, yet not too thin). It sets up nice at address and is very easy on the eyes. It's not overly large, nor is it small. You can purchase extra weights, from 2-14 grams each, should you want to. They are easy to swap out with the triangle weight tool (not included), and do not need epoxy to stay in place. I love to tinker with clubs so my main goal was to make it as heavy as possible, just to satisfy my curiosity. I have about 10 sets of irons in my collection from many major manufacturers. I can hit them all well, but I like to experiment with different club designs, weights, lengths, etc. I added two 14 gram weights to each port of the KE4-S. I'm a firm believer that there is a learning curve when trying out new clubs. I have no miracle story to share about the first time I hit the clubs; in fact, it was a rather ugly experience the first time, so I put it back in my bag and waited for another day. I will say that these irons have the best ball contact feel of any iron I have ever hit. Because I have them built so dramatically different from any other club I've played, I'm still adjusting to the swing feel. However, on my second trip to the driving range, I was starting to get used to them. Without a doubt, the most noticeable thing was the flight of the ball. In spite of the stronger lofts, the ball launched off the club face with a high trajectory, landing very softly, and was straight as a stick. I assembled my club with an Adila Low Torque graphite iron shaft in stiff flex. 1/2" long, aligned the shaft spine in the 12 o'clock/6 o'clock position, butt weighted the shaft with a 1/2" X 3" clevis pin, and used a Grip One oversize non-taper grip. This resulted in a heavy static weight club with a swing weight in the low C range (low swing weight because of the heavy butt weight). Note: Before the butt weight, the swing weight was an E-0 with both 14 gram weights installed). My choice of a tip flexible shaft likely attributed to the high trajectory, but I believe the low COG of the club head also made a difference. The real beauty of this club though is the availability to customize the weights to YOUR individual swing. By changing the head weights, you can change the swing weight, static weight, and club head COG. Regarding the COG, it not only can be moved from heel to toe, but also low to high -- that's significant. For me, I think I'm settling on a 14 gram heel weight and the 4 gram toe weight. You don't find that flexibility in weighting in any other club manufactured. In summary, it's a fantastic club that will make the game more enjoyable for player's who prefer a game improvement design.

With Ke4 S iron head, can I use heavier weight at toe and lighter weight at heel to help with slice ball flight.

Asked by: Edd
To help correct a slice you would actually put the heavier weight in the heel and the lighter weight in the toe. Putting the heavier weight in the toe will slow down the rotation of the clubhead through impact and cause the face to stay open. The reality is that these weights are to close to the club face to have anything but a very minor effect on correcting a slice or hook.

HI, I like the ability to easily change the head weight. Still I have run into a problem in that in all the irons I am hitting a fade out to the right . Some thing that I never have done before. I usually hit it straight. Is the lie causing this ?

Asked by: JamesNZ
Lie angle can have a big effect on direction. We would certainly recommend having a lie test done with these irons. The shaft you are using and the flex of the shaft could also be causing the fade. A swingweight adjustment might also help. It could be a combination of specifications that is causing the fade.

Can these be made at a single iron legnth 37 or 37.5 lenth and weights adjusted to feel the same.  lofts and lies adjusted as needed?

Asked by: Edward
No these head weights cannot be adjusted enough to be used with single length irons and maintain the same swingweight. We do not offer a set of irons heads to support a single length set of irons.

My clubs are usually 1inch shorter then standard and much more shorter then standard on wood and driver say 42 and 43respectively.can weights on the iron heads and hybrid as well as wood be increased so that my swing weight is achieved?

Asked by: Philbie
To properly answer this question for you we would need to know what swingweight you would want to achieve plus what shafts and grips do you normally use? With this information we could calculate the swingweights to see if these would work for you.
