We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Ralph Maltby, founder of The GolfWorks. For over five decades, his pioneering work in clubmaking, club repair, club fitting, and education made him one of the most influential minds in the golf equipment industry.
Ralph’s legacy is not defined by any single innovation. He helped shape modern club fitting and design, authored foundational reference materials for the industry, and dedicated his career to helping golfers of all abilities play better through better equipment.
When Ralph founded The GolfWorks over 50 years ago from his basement in Ohio, he set out to give amateur golfers and professionals alike access to the tools, education, and insight needed to improve their game.
Ralph was truly unique in his ability to understand and communicate the physics of golf. He was able to connect with a diverse audience by breaking down complex ideas so anyone could understand them. Everyone who had the privilege of meeting him – whether a touring pro, a teaching professional, an industry engineer, or a young junior golfer – felt like they were talking to a close friend.
As we reflect on his life and contributions, The GolfWorks Family is keenly aware of the responsibility of carrying on the legacy that Ralph built. We will continue to work every day to live up to the level of professionalism and excellence that Ralph stood for.
Ralph’s impact on our lives and business will endure for generations.
