Well made at very good price.
this gauge is very well made, the best gauge in its price range by far. I should have bought it years ago.

Can you explain the 0(zero) an 5(five) that are on the gear part of the gauge. Trying to figure out if I use the 5 or 0 when calculatimg LIE.
The 0 and 5 gauge come from a Vernier Caliper. You read the specification from the "0". The 5 will read in 1/2 degree increments and for the most part is not needed but say you have a reading of 60.5 degrees lie angle the "5" would then be right on one of the degree lines so that you know you are right on a half degree measurement..

Swivel base what is that ? - do you have a picture of that ?
What is the weight of the gauge, as I will bring it with my in a flight from US
Here is the link for the Swivel Base (SLLB) where you can see the picture. The base is like a "lazy susan" in that it allows you to rotate the gauge into different position when you are reading loft, lie and other clubhead specifications. The GW1040 gauge weights 12 lbs. and the Swivel Base (SLLB) weights 2 lbs.

How does this measure driver and fairway woods? What position is is considered soled
Here is the link to the instructions for the GW1040 gauge.
If you look at Figure 8 under Lie Angle you will see the 2 yellow cards slid under the sole to identify the correct lie angle. The driver is sitting on it sole and the center of the face lined up to the center line on the sliding base of the gauge. The yellow cards are slid in from either side and if they are equal distance from the center line this is the correct lie angle. Even if you are measuring just loft or face angle you want to set it up for the correct lie angle first. I like to put my hand on top of the clubhead and wiggle it to make sure it feels soled correctly. I know that in some cases the club manufactures are not reading the loft and face angle specifications with the clubheads soled on a surface like this. They are suspending the clubhead in the air and reading the loft and face angle changes from a square face position.

I just got the GW 1040. After marking the center line, I slide 2 pieces of paper under the sole and get equal distance between them from the center line. 100% of all my Apex CF16 irons groves not even close to being parallel to the straight edge.
This is more common then people realize. This is why this is the correct method to measure specifications and not a loft and lie bending machines that read the lie angle from the scoring lines.

I have a GW1040 that looks like the one on your site. The one pictured in the download pdf manual doesn't look at all like it. Can you make available a manual for the GW1040? It has a Vernier gauge on the back off it unlike the one in the download pdf.
Sorry but at this time we do not have a separate set of instructions for the GW1040. That is something we will be doing right after the first of the year. With the Vernier gauge on the GW1040 you read to the lie angle to the "0". On the one that you have if there is also a 5 on the Vernier gauge it is for reading half degrees. If you have any other questions you can email me at email@example.com or by 1-800-848-8358 and my extension is 1184.
