Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hard to work with I have installed hundreds of grips and never before had such a hard time. Thankfully I had a can of charcoal lighter fluid to use instead. The product is Not adequately labeled, stating that it contains petroleum naphtha, but you can smell dilimonene, if it were simply naphtha it would work. Mineral spirits or lighter fluid work better, if you can handle it safely, chlorinated solvent dries faster. This product appears to be intended as an enviro friendly alternative but unfortunately it doesn't work very well. Use a better solvent, just handle responsibly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Product This is a terrible 'solvent.' I bought a quart and a roll of golfworks double sided tape to re-grip an entire set of irons. I found that the grips would get stuck on the tape after the first 2-3 inches. I ruined two of the golf pride tour velvet grips this way when I could not force them any further down the shaft and also could not pull them back off. For the grips that I could get all the way down to the butt, I had to use so much force that they are now stretched and thinned out. Bottom line, I ruined 8 new grips because of this product, I will have to re-do my entire set of irons, and I will never use this product again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is useless, garbage "solvent" I don't know what is in this, but it's not mineral spirits. Grips stick half way on. Skip this junk altogether. Using regular mineral spirits from a metal can from the hardware store let me finish the grips. DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not good Found this solvent doesn't lubricate enough to allow smooth installation of grips. Ruined two wrap style Winn grips trying to slid them on. No slip at all. Will not ever purchase this stuff again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing peformance! The worst grip solvent I have ever used. I had to use excessive amounts and the grips still were difficult to install, zero time to adjust after installation.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible grip solvent! This solvent was terrible. I ruined 2 grips because the tape and solvent did activate.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not nearly as good as the old solvent This was not the first time I've changed my own grips or used Golfworks products but I have to say using this was the worst experience yet. It dried out long before the grip could be slipped on the shaft. The old solvent may have been less eco friendly and took longer to dry but it worked so much better. I've always thought Golfworks products were top shelf but they dropped the ball on this one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from very poor I must agree with those who expressed their dissatisfaction with this product. I threw away three new Winn grips because I was unable to slide them down the shaft. This is a very POOR lubricant!

Is this solvent odorless?

Asked by: Bubba
No, the SOM solvents are not odorless. The Brampton HF100 solvents are the odorless solvents.

is it odorless?

Asked by: Mark
No, this is not an odorless solvent. It is not bad but it does have a little odor. The Brampton Solvent (HF100) is an odorless gripping solvent.

What is the difference between this solvent and the Brampton solvent? Why does GolfWorks sell two brands of grip solvent? Also, surprised at the poor reviews on the Golfworks solvent? Please let me know which is your premier solvent.

Asked by: HankC
The SOM GolfWorks solvent is a petroleum based (Mineral Spirits) solvent that is flammable and the Brampton solvent is a paraffin based solvent that is not flammable. The SOM solvent will evaporate quicker and sometimes it seems to evaporate to quick and that can cause grip installation problems. The Brampton solvent does not evaporate as quickly and seems to be slipperier and grip can seem to go on easier. You do have to let grips sit a little longer with the Brampton solvent before using them but I would always try to leave them set overnight with any solvent I use.

What are the directions for the product. There were none on the bottle or with the purchase. Things are warming up here in Minnesota, so I need to get these new grips on my clubs so I don't waste any time before the snow flies again.

Why are you guys still selling this? ...horrible reviews.

Asked by: Birddog45
SOMQT is our biggest selling solvent. It is not likely it would be our best seller if it did not work. If you have had a problem please contact Customer Service at 1-800-848-8358 and give us a chance to help you with this.
